Eyelash and its side effects and risks

Eyelash (shalazion) is a bump or swelling on the upper or lower eyelid, usually painless and slowly growing. If you have shalazione, don’t worry, as this is one of the most common eyelid masses. As we said, shalazione may appear on your upper eyelid or lower eyelid, but in most cases it is on the upper eyelid. It may also appear in both eyes.

But what is Shalazion?
As you know, there are different glands throughout our body. The glands are the stuff that our organs need to produce. There are glands in our eyelids that produce some oil to moisten our eyes with tears. Experts say obstruction in myobumin (eye fat glands) can lead to shalazion. There are viruses or inflammation of the eye that can be a major cause of shalazion. It is also common among people with chronic blepharitis, rosacea, acne or seborrhea. In some cases, shalazion may disappear without treatment. But you should see an ophthalmologist. Here are some possible treatments:

Your doctor may give you some home care instructions. You should not push or massage it. You should use warm compresses as much as your doctor prescribes. This can help drain oil from the gland. Your doctor may prescribe cream or eye drops for you.
If this does not work, then your ophthalmologist will recommend surgery or corticosteroid injection.
Your doctor will choose the right option based on the factors, symptoms and risks.

Eyelash Symbols
Eyelashes occur more often in adults than in children. It may start with a small area on the eyelid that can turn red and become painful. Often the pain relieves after a few days. Other symptoms that may be due to shalazion include:

  • Eye irritation
  • Increase eye tears
  • Swollen eyelids
  • Depending on the size of the eyelash, you may have blurred or visual obstruction
  • Small swelling on your eyelids
  • the pain
  • Your skin may turn red

You should note that Shalazion will come back in some cases. New glazes may be created at the previous location or at a new location on your eyelid.

Complications and Dangers of Chalazion
In most cases, shalazione does not cause any problems. But like any other disease, shalazion has risks. An infection can occur in a cyst and can catch all the eyelids and eyes. Sometimes the eyelids become swollen and prevent the eyes from opening. Pain and fever are also likely. This problem is called orbital cellulitis and in this case you should see your ophthalmologist. It can be treated with an antibiotic injection. Some other side effects include:

  • Astigmatism due to shalazion pressure on the cornea
  • In some cases, the patient may lose eyelashes
  • May cause dry eyes
