Lasik Corrective Surgery

Refractive error

To see, the light must be focused and the image created with the cornea on the retina. It works like a camera lens to create an image in a movie. Sometimes the image we see is blurred due to the defective shape or structure of the cornea and the eyes. These defects have been called refractive errors, which include three types: Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism. Glasses or contact lenses are designed to compensate for these defects.

Refractive surgery or refractive surgery

It is a set of methods that can improve the concentration of the eye. LASIK, (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis), is the most common type of laser eye surgery. This surgery is used to treat refractive errors.

LASIK ACTION

In LASIK, the surgeon anesthetizes the eye through anesthetic drops. He then opens the eyelids using a device called “Leading Speculum”. The surgeon should make a thin cut of tissue in the outer layer of the cornea. He can reshape the cornea with a computer-controlled laser. After a few minutes, he returns the cut. It works like a bandage and improves your eyes within hours.

People who undergo LASIK may have a slight pressure on the eyes, itching or burning but this surgery is not usually painful.

Symptoms and diagnosis

You may ask what are the signs and symptoms of refractive errors? Common symptoms include:

  • Blurred vision, dark or uneven vision
  • Double vision
  • He saw opacity
  • A glow or aura around bright lights
  • Narrow eyes when looking
  • Headache
  • Eye fatigue
  • side effects
  • Dry eyes

One of the common complications of LASIK is dry eyes. Studies show that a significant number of patients undergoing LASIK have a decrease in tear production, which can cause discomfort and dry eyes. We can cure dry eye by pouring eye drops.

Specialists offer a variety of reasons for people experiencing dry eye after LASIK. One of the reasons is corneal nerve damage that can occur when the surgeon makes a corneal incision or when he or she laser-corrects the cornea. Another possible cause is damage to the cells in the eye called the Goblet cells following a corneal incision. Inflammation of the nerve endings can also be another cause of dry eye or make it worse.

Light sensitivity and irritability

In the first few days after LASIK, some discomfort such as light sensitivity and mild irritability are normal. During the first few weeks, you may have symptoms of auroras, blurred vision, binary vision, and your vision may decrease. In many cases, these problems completely disappear in the first months.

Deviation of vision

During surgery, the LASIK incision may not stick to the surface of the eye properly, or some microscopic wrinkles in the flap may occur. This type of complication causes distortion of vision.

Special items

For pregnant patients or those with hormonal abnormalities, vision may return slowly to its former level after surgery. Another complication is irregular astigmatism due to the asymmetry of corneal surface curvature. This can also happen if the laser is not positioned precisely on the center of the eye.
